Thomas Ganley, Sr.

September 19, 1926 – June 22, 2011

Thomas A. Ganley, Sr., age 84, of Southport, the beloved husband of Mary A. (Hughes) Ganley for fifty-seven years, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Bridgeport with his family by his side.

Born in Westmeath, Ireland, Mr. Ganley immigrated to the United States in 1949 and served during the Korean War. He then worked as a Clerk in the Southport Post Office for over thirty years. He was the former President of the Gaelic American Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Thomas A. Ganley, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Huntington; Brian J. Ganley of Bpt., Sean Ganley of Huntington; his two daughters, Sheila Chrzanowski and her husband, Edmund of Milford and Maureen Rotman and her husband, Hank of Guilford; his brother, James Ganley of Southport; his sister, Delia Ganley of Ireland and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Michael and Joseph and a sister, Angela Lowry.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center.

    My Dearest Ganley Family,
    I want to express my sincere condolences on the news of the passing of Tom. He was my Godfather and a good man.
    I will always remember the fun we had on Reef Road. I will especially remember watching Tom and Mary as if floating across the floor, dancing, as if they were one. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Jim, I will say an extra prayer for you tonight as I know this loss of your brother, as well as your best friend and golf partner is so hard.
