Rita Ross Stearns
April 9, 1926 – December 20, 2011
Rita Ross Stearns, age 85, of Fairfield and formerly of Larchmont, NY, the loving wife of the late Robert Servey Stearns, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Nyack, NY to the late Joseph and Lillian Collins, Mrs. Stearns was a resident of Larchmont, NY prior to moving to Fairfield in 1990. She attended the Jewish Home for the Elderly Eldercare Center. Rita was an energetic person who enjoyed being around her family and friends. She especially loved the Christmas season. Rita is survived by her loving family: a daughter, Karen A. Ross of Fairfield; two sons, Robert Michael Ross and his wife, Gitta of Garland, TX and Richard H. Ross and his partner, Monica Lavin of White Plains, NY; two brothers, Kevin Collins of Rye, NY and Brian Collins of FL; two sisters, Joan Leddy and Marianne Nicholas, both of FL; three grandchildren, Devan Ross, Natascha Ross and Don Ross and his wife, Kris; and her close cousins, William Collins of Mt. Vernon, NY and Charles Quinn of CA; her great grandchild, Ashley Ross and her faithful and dedicated caregiver, Shimone Fitzgerald. She was predeceased by herbrother, Joseph F. Collins; her sister, Carol Fisher and her grandson, Brendan Ross. Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessy Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. Interment to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery. Friends may greet her family at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the nursing and medical staff at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for their professional dedication and care of their mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Rita and our Dad, her cousin, (Robert McCartney) always had pleasant times together and spoke about all the memories they held near and dear to their hearts.
