Lena Moran

January 2, 1923 – June 2, 2011

Lena A. (Geiser) Moran, age 88, of Southport, the beloved wife of the late John P. Moran, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Born in Germany to the late John and Jette Geiser, the family immigrated to the United States in 1927 and settled in Lawrence, MA. Lena was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1940 and the Massachusetts College of Art in 1945 and she also studied calligraphy at Edward Karr Museum School in Boston. Prior to her retirement, she was a Commercial Artist in the retail advertising field. Lena worked for Filene’s in Boston (1966-1982) as an Asst. Art Director supervising artists in preparing newspaper ads and designing a series of shopping bags as well as R.H. Stearns (1945-1966) where she illustrated merchandise for newspapers. In 1982, she married John P. Moran and spent three months in 1983 on a world cruise. She subsequently spent her summers in Southport and her winter months in FL. She is survived by her devoted nephew and his wife, Thomas and Geraldine LaParle of Fairlawn, NJ; a cousin and his wife, William and Cynthia Hohenberger of Southboro, MA; her relatives in Germany and her close friend, Phyllis Holt of Southport.

Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Southport Congregational Church, 524 Pequot Ave., Southport, CT 06890. Interment to follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in her memory to Southport Congregational Church, P.O.
