Erno Kovacs

May 17, 1922 – June 8, 2011

Erno “Ernie” Kovacs, age 89 of Milford, the beloved husband of the late Ruth Lakin Kovacs, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Shelton Lakes.

Born in Stratford, Connecticut to the late Joseph and Julia Kovacs, Ernie was a lifelong area resident. He was a decorated U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran and served in WWII, having flown fifty missions in the Pacific arena. Ernie worked for many years and retired from the Finance Dept. at Textron Lycoming in Stratford, formerly AVCO. He was also a member of America St. John’s #8 Masonic Lodge in Stratford and Pyramid Shriners #9 in Milford for over fifty years. Ernie was also an avid bowler and enjoyed photography. He was very active and regularly went to the fitness center well into his 80’s.

Ernie is survived by his brother, Denes Kovacs and his wife, Helen of Shelton; niece Cindy Kovacs and her spouse, Elaine Phillips of Shelton; and nephew Bill Kovacs and his wife, Kitty of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Kovacs, Irene Aday and Margaret Hug.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. in Fairfield. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

    Since I was the youngest of nine cousins, I don’t have as many found memories as I know my older brothers Bill, Zoli, Fred, Alex, and Henry did of growing up with Ernie and his brothers. My heartfelt sympathies to his family. Lou and Anita Papp
